The Visual Arts Program is designed to develop the creative ability of students to enter professional visual arts careers. The curriculum fosters their aesthetic and historical knowledge of the visual arts.
We provide a comprehensive background in the visual arts program with an emphasis on both foundation and advanced studio courses. Students are oriented toward a career in graphic design, illustration, animation, studio art, and art history, or preparation for continued study at the graduate level.
The department’s professional visual arts program, as structured within the liberal arts, enables students to receive personal attention in small classes. Our goal is to encourage students to build an appropriate pathway for internships and future career opportunities.

Westfield State University does not require an application essay, SAT and/or ACT scores, or letters of recommendation (except for special program admissions).
All first-year applicants are reviewed for admission based on their high school record. First-year applicants must meet the minimum eligibility requirements established by the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education (DHE) in order to qualify for admission to a state university.
