Residence Hall Description
Courtney Hall houses 522 sophomore, junior, and senior students in double, triple, and quad style rooms. The Laundry Room is located on the West side of the first floor and includes several high efficiencey washers and dryers. Only high efficiency detergent should be used in the washers. Vending machines are located on all floors.

A 2004 Westfield State College graduate, Shannon hails from the Berkshires and is currently the Residence Director of Courtney Hall. After graduation, Shannon took a residence director position at Mitchell College on the Connecticut shore. After a year away, she realized that Westfield is where she belonged and in the fall of 2006 returned to the campus where she was the Residence Director of Lammers Hall for the next four years. Some of Shannon's accomplishments include the extremely successful "Light the Night" campus program to honor family and friends close to our students, advisor of the Class of 2011, and her continued role as the Assistant Coordinator of New Student and Parent Orientation Program. Shannon is now in her fifth year on campus as a Residence Director and loves her home, the Westfield campus.

Residence Hall History
Courtney Hall opened in 1989. It is named after Samuel Courtney, an African American student (Class of 1882) who later became a Harvard M.D. Courtney also served as the chief northern organizer for Booker T. Washington, who sent several souther African American students from Tuskegee Institute for training at Massachusetts 'normal schools' in the late 19th century.

Courtney Hall is our largest campus residence in terms of both size and occupancy. Unique features include the first floor kitchen and main lounge with working fireplace; and the fifth floor study lounge with its cupola (or tower). Courtney is also notable amoung our campus buildings for having a pitched (not flat) roof.
