The MSSLS Department offers a major in Movement Science leading to a Bachelor of Science (B. S.) degree. The major program prepares the student with a foundation in the human movement sciences enabling the student to pursue a career alternative through selection of at least one of five concentrations; Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, Health Fitness, Physical Education Teacher Certification and Wilderness Experiences. Students successfully completing the undergraduate degree program may also pursue graduate study.

Movement Science majors are required to complete 30 semester hours of courses which are designated as majors’ core courses. Additionally, all majors must complete at least one of the five concentrations within the major. Applicants for admission into a concentration must fulfill criteria for each concentration established by the department. In addition to the 30 semester hours of courses required for the major, MSSLS majors are required to complete one of five designated concentrations in either Sports Medicine, Athletic Training, Health Fitness, Physical Education Teaching Certification, or Wilderness Leadership. Teacher Preparation and Wilderness Leadership require that the student satisfactorily complete 18 credits of specified courses and an internship or practicum. Students who select the Athletic Training, Health Fitness, Sport Medicine concentrations are required to satisfactorily complete 31, 29 or 21 credits respectively of specified courses and a 6 credit clinical experience. Majors may choose to complete more than one concentration if they desire. In lieu of the field experience, students may select two upper level courses offered by the department.
