Requirements for Mathematics Majors For Classes 2003 - 2005 (36 Credits):
For Class of 2006 and later (39 Credits):
It is strongly recommended that mathematics majors fulfill their lab science core requirement by taking PHSC 0125-Physics I. This should be taken after completing MATH 0106-Calculus II. It is strongly recommended that students choose MATH 0340-Mathematical Statistics as one of their 0300-level courses, and to take this course immediately after MATH 0106-Calculus II (in the semester between Calculus II and Calculus III). At most 6 credits of any combination of Math 360 & Math 399 can count towards the major. Beginning mathematics majors should follow one of the following tracks:
Any 200-level or 300-level mathematics course can count towards the minor. At most two (2) additional 100-level mathematics courses can count towards the minor. CAIS 0351-Theory of Computation can count towards the minor.
Requirements for Licensure as a Teacher of Mathematics (5 – 8, 8 – 12) A minimum grade point average of 2.8 is required for practicum placement: All students who are seeking middle or secondary licensure need to register for the Professional Sequence with the Education Department, 211 Parenzo Hall. Undergraduate mathematics majors who wish to be licensed to teach Middle School or High School mathematics must: Include the following courses among their six 300-level mathematics electives in order to satisfy mandated state teacher licensure competencies. These courses must be completed with a grade of C or better: Complete CAIS 117-Introduction to Computer Programming. Complete the Professional Sequence for Middle and Secondary Specialist:
