GRANT PROGRAMS

Westfield State College has grouped the various financial aid programs available to our students into three different categories: grant/waivers, loan and work.  The following is a description of the grants that are available.

The Federal Pell Grant

  • Federally funded and administered by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Intended for students demonstrating extreme financial need

  • Available to undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree.

  • Awards range from $890-$5,350

  • Does not need to be repaid 

Academic Competitiveness Grant

  • Federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient

  • Full time enrollment is required

  • Have completed a rigorous secondary school program of study

  • If a first-year student, not have been previously enrolled in an undergraduate program

  • If a second-year student, have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the first academic year

  • First-year award value is $750 and second-year award value is $1300

  • Does not need to be repaid

National SMART Grant

  • Federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Be a Federal Pell Grant recipient

  • Full time enrollment is required

  • Be enrolled in a four-year degree-granting institution

  • Available to Juniors and Seniors only

  • Major in physical, life or computer science, engineering, mathematics, technology, or a critical foreign language

  • Have at least a cumulative 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale

  • Award value is $4,000

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

  • Eligibility is based directly on demonstrated financial need

  • Available to undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time and pursuing their first bachelor’s degree

  • Awards range from $100-$1,000, are subject to available funding

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Financial Aid Tuition Waiver

  • Available to Massachusetts residents who are enrolled in the undergraduate day school.

  • Awards range from $100 to $970

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Massachusetts CASH Grant

  • State funded program awarded by the Financial Aid Office at WSC

  • Available to Massachusetts residents who are enrolled in the undergraduate day school. 

  • Awards range from $100-$3,500

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Mass GRANT

  • State funded program awarded by the Financial Aid Office at WSC

  • Offered to students who demonstrate extreme financial need

  • Available to Massachusetts residents who are full-time undergraduate students pursuing their first bachelor’s degree

  • Awards range from $300-$1,300

  • The Massachusetts Office of Student Financial Assistance will notify students of their award

  • Does not need to be repaid

College Scholarship

  • A Westfield State College funded grant for needy students

  • Awards cannot exceed $7,000

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Westfield State College Housing Grant

  • A Westfield State College funded grant for needy students

  • Must be living on-campus

  • Awards range from $700-$1,400

  • Does not need to be repaid

The Part-Time Grant

  • Offered to students who demonstrate financial need

  • Available to students enrolled on a less-than full-time basis

  • Awards cannot exceed $650

  • Does not need to be repaid 

The Division of Graduate and Continuing Education Grant

  • A Westfield State College funded grant for needy students

  • Available to students enrolled in the graduate program, or

  • Undergraduate students who are attending WSC part-time

  • Awards range from $200-$500

  • Does not need to be repaid
