HISTORY DEPARTMENT
Welcome to the Westfield State College History Department. We offer a wide range of classes in United States, European, World History including Middle East, Africa and Asia. The Deptartment also sponsors a History Club and an Honor Society, offers history internships at local museums and historic sites, sponsors a two-week study abroad trip to Europe every summer, and publishes the Historical Journal of Massachusets. Currently we have 145 history majors. Over half of our majors plan to become high school or middle school social studies teachers.
The History Department office is located in Bates 021. Dr. Michael Anciello is the Interim Chair of the History Dept. for 2008-09 (572-5220). Dr. Mark Abate is the Graduate Student Advisor (572-5345). Dr. Brooke Orr (572-5708) serves as the History Education (teacher certification) coordinator. Michelle Pescetta is the department secretary (Tel. 413-572-8297). Her office is located in Bates 116. She is available 8:00 – 4:00 daily except for lunch (12-1:00).
