WESTERN CONNECTICUT WOMEN'S SOCCER ROLLS OVER WESTFIELD STATE

 

DANBURY, CT -  The Western Connecticut State University rolled to a 5-0 victory over Westfield State College on Wednesday night at Westside Athletic Complex Thursday night.

            The Colonials, 11-1-2 overall scored four goals in the first half beginning with all-time leading goal scorer Nicole Corbin (Clinton, CT) who scored her ninth goal of the season in the fifth minute of play.

            Ten minutes later, Jessica Gomes (Wallingford, CT) notched her seventh goal following a crossing pass from Corbin.

            Caitlin Boyle (Brookfield, CT) made it 3-0 when she finished off a corner kick from Corbin in the 25th minute.

            Just before intermission, Kim Crayco (Bolton, CT) tallied her sixth goal of the season, again off a corner kick.  Kari Guasco (Danbury, CT) and Marissa DeBlasio (Wallingford, CT) were in on assists.

            Calie Carter (Lebanon, NH) added the final goal, the fourth of the evening initiating off a WestConn corner kick.

            WestConn's Ashley Griffin (Newington, CT) was in goal for the first 45 minutes and did not have to make a save.  Jenna Cappellieri (Stratford, CT) and Shannon Cawley (Willimantic, CT) split time in the second stanza, neither had to make a save for the Colonials.

            Jenny Cyr (Worthington, MA) made six saves for the Owls before yielding to Andrea Knowles (Littleton, MA) who made five stops.

            Westfield State falls to 4-9 on the season.
