MA- The Framingham State College womenÕs soccer team picked up their second win
of the season and their first conference win at home today 2-1 over Westfield
State. With the win, the Rams are now 2-8 overall and 1-1 in the MASCAC,
while the Owls are 3-8 overall and 0-3 in conference.
Six
minutes into the game, freshman forward Jen Fudala corralled a pass from senior
Daniela Ferrara and knocked it past the diving Westfield State goalkeeper to
give the Rams a 1-0 lead. The Owls controlled the ball for most of the
first half keeping the ball in the Rams defensive end but they were unable to
score. Westfield State goalkeeper Jenny Cyr kept the owls within striking
distance in the first as she made 5 saves on the day.
Freshman
forward Jenn Leveille was able to knot the game at one in the 60th minute when she received a pass
on the breakaway from junior Erin Lowney and was able to knock it home as the
Rams goalkeeper Ashley Baker, who had 4 saves on the day, came off her
line. The game was knotted at 1-1 till the 71st minute, when senior Daniela
Ferrara launched a shot past the diving Cyr to give the Rams a 2-1 lead.
The Rams picked up their defense and were able to hold off a late offensive
surge by the Owls.
The
Rams return to action on Saturday as they host the Lancers of Worcester State
at 2:00, while the Owls travel to MCLA on Tuesday at 3:00.
