DANBURY, CT Š The Western Connecticut State University baseball won its home opener and advanced to 3-8 on the year following its 4-2 victory over Westfield State College at Westside Field Wednesday afternoon.

Junior hurler Brian Krost (Stamford, CT) went eight innings, striking out six and walking one. He allowed just five hits and two earned runs while earning his first win of the season. Krost improves to 1-1 on the year.

The Colonials had a 1-0 lead through six and a half innings. Then with two runners on base, Jon Lynch (Glastonbury, CT) knocked a three-run blast over the left field fence to give WestConn insurance runs and a more comfortable 3-0 lead.

The Owls of Westfield State, 6-9, threatened later in the seventh, producing two runs to cut the lead to 4-1.  Troy FergusonÕs (Rochester, MA) double scored Jay Hardell (Brooklyn, CT).  Then a wild pitch by Krost scored Brett Ford (Brockton, MA) to cut it to 4-2.
