forward Charlie Fuentes (Leominster, Mass.) scored the game winning goal on a
direct kick from the left side of the box just three minutes into the game to
give the Trinity College Bantams a 2-0 victory over the visiting Westfield
State Owls in menÕs soccer action this afternoon. Trinity is now 2-6 overall
with its first win in six games, while Westfield State falls to 3-5.
Senior tri-captain back Derek
deVos (North Easton, Mass.) added an insurance goal for the
Bantams in the 72nd minute, heading the ball off a corner kick by sophomore
midfielder Michael VanBeuren (Spring City, Pa.) into the back of the Owl goal.
Westfield State hit the post
twice, once in each half, but could not beat either of the Trinity goalkeepers,
as junior Eric Wunsch (New York, N.Y.) made three saves in the first
half and freshman Zac Trudeau (Norwell, Mass.) made the lone save of the second
half to preserve the shutout. Seniors Richard Campbell (Bermuda) and Matt Costa (Chicopee,
Mass.)
combined to make eight stops in goal for the Owls.
