WESTFIELD Ð Fitchburg State received a pair of strong pitching performances from Jenn Neslusan (Douglas, MA) and Michelle Yuille (Acushnet, MA) to sweep Westfield State, 3-0 and 2-1, in Mass. State Conference softball action.

 

Neslusan tossed a five-hit complete-game in the opener; she struck out two and allowed only one walk.

 

The Falcons (6-11, 2-0) took a 2-0 third-inning lead on a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.

 

Freshman leadoff batter Sasha Richardson (Leominster) had two of FitchburgÕs five hits; she also scored twice. Shortstop Keri Kravetz (West Bridgewater) was 1 for 3 with two RBI.

 

Losing pitcher Leah Peterson was 3-for-3 at the plate for the Owls.

 

In the nightcap, Yuille also scattered five hits Ð all singles Ð in going the distance. She walked one and struck out four. Beth Garfield (Brockton) pitched into the third inning for Westfield to take the pitching loss; she was relieved by Peterson.

 

Designated player Alyssa Freda (Leominster) and catcher Meghan Feeley (Bridgewater) both collected two singles and an RBI.

 

Shortstop Emily Tangney (Randoph) had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Owls.
