Westfield State 4 Ð Framingham State 1

 

WESTFIELD Ð Junior midfielder Kate Anderson (Georgetown) scored two unassisted goals to power Westfield State to a convincing 4-1 field hockey victory over Framingham State on Oct. 1.

 

The Owls improved to 3-6 overall with their second straight victory. Framingham is 4-4. Last season the teams shared the Mass. State Conference regular season championship with Framingham defeating Westfield in the postseason tournament.

 

Westfield led 1-0 at halftime as Anderson scored with 8:47 remaining on a wicked blast from 10 yards out.

 

Westfield junior forward Shanna Litterst had some nifty assists on the OwlsÕ next two goals, which were recorded by sophomore Megan Wolski and freshman Kara Guittarr.

 

Anderson extended WestfieldÕs lead to 4-0 with 5:03 left in the game on a scramble in front of the net.

 

Framingham finally scored off a penalty corner with 1:25 remaining on a goal by Jenn Johnson, who was the MASCAC 2004 co-Player of the Year along with WestfieldÕs Kate Anderson.
