WESTFIELD STATE 10 Ð FRAMINGHAM STATE 2

 

FRAMINGHAM - In NEFC action today at Maple Street Field the visiting Westfield State Owls edged the Framingham State Rams by a score of 10-2. 

 

With the win the Owls improve to 4-3, while the Rams slip to 2-5.

 

Westfield State jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on a 26-yard field goal from senior kicker Rory McKeon, who had missed on the previous possession from 25 yards out.

 

Westfield State pushed its lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter when Mike Lorenzano tossed a 12-yard TD pass to B.J. Holleran.

 

The Rams got on the scoreboard in the third quarter. Westfield State was punting from its own two-yard line and the snap sailed out of bounds for a safety.

 

In the fourth quarter, the Rams offense was able to move the ball into Owl territory but was unable to find the end zone. 

 

Rick Coburn led the way for the Owl defense with 10 tackles and 2 pass breakups. Offensively, Lorenzano completed 10 of 17 passes for 79 yards and rushed for 42 net yards on 16 carries. Senior tailback Mark Puchalski rushed for 71 net yards on 24 carries. Holleran had seven catches for 64 yards.

 

Freshman running back Alex Nagle rushed for 45 yards on 9 carries for the Rams.  The Ram defense was led by senior Adam Watkins, who had 12 tackles.

 

WestfieldÕs next game is Saturday, Oct. 29, when it hosts Maine Maritime at noon.
