Westfield State 80 Š Curry College 58

 

 

WESTFIELD Š Sophomore guard Gavin Illangakoon (Ellington, Conn.) scored a game-high 20 points to lead Westfield State to an 80-58 non-conference victory over Curry College on Jan. 13.

 

Illangakoon, who matched his career best, tallied 14 first-half points as the Owls (4-6) led 36-21 at intermission. Westfield quickly sealed the victory with a 13-0 run in the opening four minutes of the second half for a commanding 49-21 lead.

 

The Owls shot and passed the ball extremely well. They made 56 percent (32-for-57) of their field goal attempts, including 63 percent in the second half, and dished out 24 assists.

 

Senior forward Vaso Jaukovic played a fine floor game for the Owls with 13 points and team highs of nine rebounds and six assists. Junior forward Mike Jurkowski of Belchertown contributed 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.

 

Junior forward Raheim Lamb Š a transfer from U-Mass Amherst Š led the 3-6 Colonels with 19 points and nine rebounds. Curry only shot 31 percent from the field.
