The Westfield State College varsity cheering squad is comprised of three different groups: competition cheering, varsity football cheering, and cheering at men's and women's basketball games.
Some students are members of each group but they are three separate entities. The competition cheering squad is a recognized varsity sport and consists of both women and men. They compete weekly at competitions throughout the Northeast.
In past years the competition squad has competed at the Emmanuel College Invitational, Rebel All-Star Invitational at New Hampshire College; the Cupid Classic at Cortland State in New York, and the New England College Cheer and Dance Competition at Southern Connecticut State University.
The competition cheering squad's most popular trip and competition during the past few years has been to the College Cheerleading and Dance Team national championships at Disney World in Orlanda, Fla. The team makes an annual trek to the Disney World competition in early January before the start of the spring semester.
The varsity football and basketball units mainly perform at Westfield State's home games. In certain instances, in particular playoff games, the teams will travel to away contests.
