CHAPIN AND ZAVALA LEAD WESTFIELD STATE PAST TRINITY

 

Hartford, Conn. - Junior forward Amanda Chapin (Westfield, Mass.) totaled 18 points and a game-high 15 rebounds to lead the visiting Westfield State College Owls to a 72-61 win over the Trinity College Bantams women's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity, playing its home opener, drops to 1-2 with its second straight loss, while the Owls improve to 2-1.

 

The Owls broke the game open in the second half, extending a four-point lead to more than 20 at times during the second stanza. The Bantams shot just 30 percent from the field in the game, although senior forward Jessica Baker (Middlebury, Conn.) scored a team-high 17 points. Sophomore forward Sarah Cox (Norwell, Mass.) paced the Bantams with 10 rebounds and senior captain guard Deirdre Savageau (Framingham, Mass.) added a team-high four assists.

 

Freshman guard Kyana Zavala (Springfield, Mass.) joined Chapin in double figures for the Owls with 18 points, including 15 in the first half, and added four boards and three steals. Westfield State freshman guard Melissa Macchi (Peabody, Mass.) dished out a game-high seven assists.
