Registration Information

Pre-Registration

There are two pre-registration periods for current students, one in March for the Fall semester, the other in November for the Spring semester. Exact dates are listed in the College calendar and each semester's Course Offerings Booklet. All students expecting to return for the next semester must meet with their faculty advisors before pre-registering for the following semester. The Registration PIN will be distributed after the advising session. See the Course Offerings Booklet for information about online registration

Add-Drop

Students must register for classes prior to the first week of each semester. There is also an add/drop period the first five days of each semester, but admittance to courses is based upon available seating during this add/drop period. Students may register for DGCE classes on a space-available basis and may petition for approval to be overloaded into a full Day division class during add/drop.

Registrar: FAQ

How do I change/declare a major?

A: You must complete a Change of Major form and have the 'old' and 'new' academic departments approve your change. Submit the sign form to SASC. Refer to the Course Offerings Booklet for the deadline to change a major in time for pre-registration. The form may be obtained in SASC.

Q: When must coursework be completed for a grade of 'Incomplete' from the previous semester?

A: You must complete the required course work for an incomplete (I) by the fourth week of class of the following semester. If you do not complete the work within the required time, and an extension has not been approved, the grade will be automatically changed to an 'F'.

Q: How can an undergraduate student be named to the Dean's List?

A: You can be named to the Dean's List if you are a full-time undergraduate (at least 12 graded semester hours) and have a semester average of 3.3 or higher with no grade below 'C' and no grade of Incomplete.

Q: Why would an undergraduate student be placed on probation or be suspended?

A: If a student's QPA at the end of the semester falls below these minimum levels, the student is subject to academic action. See the college Bulletin for additional information.

TABLE OF ACADEMIC STANDING LEVELS

Attempted Credits* Satisfactory Probation Suspension
QPA QPA QPA
0-23 1.5 1.0 - 1.499 Under 1.0
24-47 1.75 1.25 -1.749 Under 1.25
48+ 2.0 1.5 - 1.999 Under 1.5

*Attempted credits, for the purpose of determining a student's academic standing level, are calculated by adding a student's total quality hours and total transfer hours.

Q: How can I get approval for transfer courses from other schools?

A: You must fill out a Course Permission Form and obtain the signature of the WSC department that offers the equivalent course. Once approved, submit the form to SASC. When you have completed the course, have an official transcript sent directly from the host school's Registrar's Office to WSC's Registrar's Office and the course will be posted to your WSC record. The form may be obtained in SASC.

Q: What do I have to do to notify WSC that I intend to graduate?

A: You must fill out a Degree Completion Plan/Diploma Order form, preferably when you register for your last semester's classes. The submission of this form will alert us to audit your Core and Major/Minor progress and to order a diploma for you. The form may be obtained in SASC.

Q: May I participate in Commencement even though I won't be quite finished with my program when it takes place?

A: Yes. Students who have completed at least 114 semester hours may petition to participate in the Commencement Ceremony in May. Some restrictions apply: students must need only two courses to complete at the time of Commencement, have a minimum grade point average of 2.0 in the major and a minimum 2.0 gpa overall. Petitions may be obtained in SASC.
